What is the name of this book on a beam of blue light that the boy transported into the future?
I'm trying to remember the name of book One thing I read about four years before. It was about a boy, the old people moved by a beam of blue light in a seemingly primitive civilization. He met a girl there, and I do not remember that much happened, but it turns out that he bottom part of a Coke bottle on the saw and realized that it actually the future, and the majority of the population was wiped out by some kind of disease. He somehow found the light and rose again, and when he returned to his time own, he forgot how to speak English disease for a while, and then set to find a cure. On the cover was a desert with a beam of blue Light descending from heaven on the sand, I think. Who knows what it means? Thank you!
I think you mean The Transall Saga by Gary posted on Paulsen. It is story about a 13-year-old boy Mark, after stepping into a mysterious beam of light, Mark is transported to another place – a strange and hostile world. As Mark tries to find his way back home, he learns to survive in this dangerous jungle, reserves of strength he did not asked what he had. The encounter with wild Animals, primitive tribes, and an advanced and warlike group of people has forced the young protagonist to grow up before he returned to the life he once knew can. He is a slave, a warrior, and falls in love – all before the mystery of exactly where he is clear. I got this information from www.amazon.com….the Link

Fatback was always well aware of where the future lay. Keeping their eyes and their funk firmly on the pulse of R&B, Fatback (aka Fatback Band) took their audiences on a two-decade journey of perpetual evolution, wrapping their roots in psychedelic R&B, pop, soul, disco, and on into hip-hop, as that genre was formulated as well. By 1983, the musical pulse was firmly in the hands of the new wave — both in soul and pop. Michael Jackson, Prince, and Cameo ruled the R&B roost, while a thousand bubblegum wannabes beat at the door behind them. Fatback absorbed all this excitement, and once again proved that they could match anyone. Is This the Future? is eminently danceable, light funk infused with synthesizers and ’80s bass to create a vital brew. Fatback recorded one of the first rap records in 1979, and they repeat the form here. This time, Gerry Bledsoe takes the mic, with a DJ rap through the title track which gives the band a Top 50 R&B hit. “Spread Love,” meanwhile, was a strong, effusive slab of danceable pop — and, alongside “The Girl Is Fine (So Fine)” and “Up Against the Wall,” really kept the pace flowing. In fact, only ” “Funky Aerobics (Body Movement)” really lets the side down, a weak presentation of not very well-placed sexual innuendo, and little more than wasted space. On the whole, Is This the Future succeeds. It’s not the driving funk of earlier renown — in places, it’s not even really that funky, and was never intended to be so. It is, however, extremely entertaining, infused with bright energy and further evidence of just what remarkable chameleons Fatback were — changing with the musical tide while keeping their essence intact. ~ Amy Hanson, Rovi Performers: Bill Curtis – Oberheim, Percussion; Carole Sylvan – Vocals (Background); Linda Blakely – Vocals (Background); Robin Dunn – Vocals (Background); Deborah Knapp – Guitar; Ed Jackson – Saxophone, Flute; Gerry Thomas – Vocals (Background), Keyboards; Herb Smith – Guitar; Johnny Flippin – Vocals (Background), Keyboards, Bass, Gu
Long awaited 2012 sophomore album from the British Electro/Rock duo, the follow-up to the successful A Brief History Of Love album. Taking their cue from Hip Hop and Electronic music producers they admire, album two started out with them simply making beats and playing with samples. So successful were these experiments, each track’s genesis can be traced back to them, even allowing live drums on the record to be ditched altogether and for guitars to come into play much later in the song writing stage than in previous recording sessions. Staying in London this time, they called upon Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence & The Machine, Plan B) to help record it, someone who they felt understood exactly what they wanted to achieve. The mixing stage was handed over to Alan Moulder who, having performed the same duty for the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and many more, they knew they were in very good hands with. Running in at ten tracks in 45 minutes, Future This commands your attention throughout.

No one has to remind Josh Joplin that he’s a vocal ringer for R.E.M.’s frontman. “I sound like Michael Stipe and I dream like Carl Jung,” goes the opening line of “Happy at Last.” And although other influences are at work here — in particular a considerable debt to Elvis Costello’s classic Imperial Bedroom — it’s Stipe’s name that first comes to mind on Joplin’s sophomore major-label release. Between his often bleak lyrics and mournful but not morose voice, this music is made for geeky college girls that hang out at the library rather than frolicking at the frat keg party. Shawn Mullins, a longtime supporter who assisted on Joplin’s last album, is MIA but his inspiration looms large. The spoken sections on the wordy “I Am Not the Only Cowboy” recall Mullins’ similar approach. Producer Rob Gal keeps the focus on Joplin’s voice, which is mixed way up front, with the rest of his group relegated to anonymous sideman status. Although there are some upbeat tracks, nothing rocks out, and the singer’s clear enunciation makes this an album to be absorbed while reading the lyric sheet, not danced to or played at parties. There are no solos and few times when the artist isn’t pontificating with his somewhat dour, hangdog outlook on life. Initially a bit chilly, Joplin’s style gradually grows warmer as the disc unwinds. It also takes a few spins for many of the melodies to emerge from under the cloak of the melancholy vocals, ornate backing, and sometimes overwhelmingly literate words. But for those who relish in snuggling up to a good book on a Saturday night, The Future That Was provides refuge and Josh Joplin might end up as your new best friend. He’s been there, done that, and has the album to prove it. ~ Hal Horowitz, Rovi Performers: Allen Broyles – Glasses, Trombone, Vocals, Piano, Trumpet, Keyboards; Eric Taylor – Vocals, Percussion, Drums; John Holbrook – Tambourine, Vocals; Josh Joplin – Vocals, Guitar; Michael Lorant – Vocals; Rob Gal – Vocals, Bass, Keyboards, Guitar; Rudyard Lee Cullers – Vocals
Taking the right Teen Career Quiz will point you in the direction of Jobs that may be a best fit for your Personality Style. When you are trying to figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life, pay close attention to what things you like to do and do not like to do. This is something you can use to guide you on your Career Path to the right career choice. You do not want to get yourself hung up in a Career Mismatch.
When I joined the Military, I was tested for my working aptitudes and transferable skills. The test placed me into a Clerical and Administrative position, because it matched to my aptitudes and capabilities best. The Job was what I liked to do, and especially something I could do well – It fit.
When I was Discharged from the Armed Services, I went into Construction right away – Big Mistake. I never liked it, but stayed because of the money and benefits. It was not who I was. I hated it – I got myself trapped into one big Career Blunder. This is exactly what you need to do. Not get trapped or necessarily join the Military, but find out who you are. It is your job to find out what your true calling, or ideal career is.
I know that it can be confusing when it comes to making a career choice that is supposed to last the rest of your life. It is a big responsibility. There is not much room for error. Just know that no matter what career you choose, you may change your mind later. Even in College, it is normal to Change your Major at least once.
Statistics show that half of those with jobs end up not liking their careers at some point. And to top that, people usually change careers a few times during their lives. Young and Old change their minds about their Careers. Sometimes, this is the way people eventually find their Dream Jobs. They do it by testing the job waters. They work at this job a while, then at that job. They quit because there is some quality about the company, or the job they do not like, and then search for another job. Eventually, they gain enough experience and insight into themselves, and finally know what things they like and do not like in a job. Then, when that particular job comes along that blends in with the preferred skills they like using every day, they then know they have found their ideal career.
Questions to ask yourself -
What Careers interest you? What things would you like and not like doing in a job?. What things fascinate you? What do you do as a Hobby? Do you have any Special Interests that could be turned into a Job? What do you like to think about? What do you find yourself daydreaming about? The question is – How do you find out who you are, so that you can know what career is right for you? What we want to find out here, is who you are in relation to a compatible Career Choice. If you find a career cluster you fit into, then you can zero in on that particular job within the cluster you think you would enjoy being in.
For example, if the Career Cluster is Electronics, one needs to narrow it down even further. What kind of electronics do you prefer? Do you want to Repair Computers, or Design the Entire Computer as a Computer Engineer ready for Manufacture? Would you rather work for the FBI putting together electronic surveillance equipment, or assemble Motherboards in a Factory? It is all up to you what you want to do, depending upon your skills, education, training and abilities.
It is theorized, that if you have the same personality and interests as one in a certain job who likes his job, you will probably like that job too.
If you are inclined toward Art, Music and Writing, you should further explore and pursue these areas. When you take a Teen Quiz that inventories your job interests and career personality, your working style preferences will be matched to certain career jobs. These Occupations will be those known to attract and retain people with your particular personality.
You may be more of a hands-on type of person, and may still be interested in Art, but maybe your creations will require Welding your artistic model together for display. You may have the artistic inclination to make a masterpiece out of metal, but you will have to acquire the manual ability to Weld, through additional Training.
Are you into Scientific Research? You may have a Mind for Math and formulas. A Teen Quiz can help guide you to those careers that may be the best fit for your abilities and personality style.
The Teen Quiz may suggest Careers you never thought about. Consider these and explore – Visit People Who have these jobs, and ask them what the job is like, and how they got into the career. You may start out with a job idea before you take the test, and end up with choices totally unrelated, that you would like doing just as well. Try to Keep an Open Mind, so you do not miss any potential opportunities – They can show up when you least expect them.
Know that You definitely fit inside some job, somewhere. The job exists that is perfect for your personality, interests and skills. Unless you have Transferable skills, you may have to receive further training and education in order to be qualified to apply for that job. This is true for those with little or no experience in the new field they wish to break into, no matter what their age.
For example, I enjoy thinking about different things, rearranging my words, and typing my thoughts out. Those in my past would often mention how it seemed I would Dwell on things too much, or refer to me as Quote – The Thinker. I was not too amused. But, now I feel I have put my aptitude to positive, good use.
I never fit my Second Career together until recently. I now make pages for my Web site, write Career and Teen Quiz articles online, and am working on a book. Just like me, you have the Capability to fit all your abilities, skills, interests, aptitudes and values together, and Discover which career will match.
Remember, that no matter what age we are, that most of the time, we still can get the education and training required to get into that particular Career Choice of our dreams. It is almost never too early to begin planning for your Future Career, nor too late to change careers and search for a new one. The first step in planning for your first career, is taking a Teen Quiz.
