Dead Heart
Why do you think the ancient Egyptians believed that the gods weighed the heart of the dead Pharaoh?

It is a bit of a cliché now to speak of a Load label sound — especially since there’s always been plenty of variety within that outfit and noise rock as a whole, and because some bands, like Houston’s Rusted Shut, have been going for ages and ages well before the label got going in the first place. Dead proves both descriptions to be accurate — if no label seems more appropriate than Load to release this particular disc, then at the same time the group has long had its own extreme stamp. This last often comes courtesy of the harsh, sometimes strained staccato speaking vocals of bandleader Don Walsh, whose declamatory approach on songs like “Home” holds a fierce command. On more conventional songs like the punk/trash sneers “Shot in the Head” and “Heart of Hell,” which turns the basic melody into a mesmerizing mantra, the whole group shines, but the more fractured numbers give Walsh a chance to practically turn the band into his spoken word accompaniment. “Intellect,” with its bleeding into the red distortion and seemingly endless grind, might be the album’s most representative song, a monstrous powerhouse. ~ Ned Raggett, Rovi

Drum's Not Dead

Drum’s Not Dead

$10.38

Continuing to explore the noise rock/prog rock fusion they pioneered with They Were Wrong, So We Drowned, Liars return with another concept album, Drum’s Not Dead. The idea behind this album is even more abstract than They Were Wrong’s conflation of witch trials and pagan rituals: Drum’s Not Dead revolves around the yin-yang relationship of two forces in the creative process, personified as Mt. Heart Attack (who represents stress and self-doubt) and Drum (the embodiment of creative energy and productivity). While this is an intriguing concept, unfortunately the actual music doesn’t always live up to it. Drum’s Not Dead borrows pages from the urban-pagan, atmospherically noisy playbooks of both Black Dice and Animal Collective, although the album isn’t as evocative as the former band’s work nor as cuddly-weird as the latter’s. Nothing here is nearly as abrasive, or immediate, as “There’s Always Room on the Broom” — throughout the album, Liars stay away from their comfort zone of dynamic noise-rock. This “quiet is the new loud” philosophy is admirable, but too often, Drum’s Not Dead sounds oddly blurred and subdued. Interestingly enough for an album that uses mountains as a motif, its terrain is actually more like a valley, starting and ending with powerful tracks and dipping sharply in the middle. Drum’s Not Dead begins with “Be Quiet Mt. Heart Attack,” which is not only the album’s best track, but one of the finest things Liars have ever done. With dark, shimmering guitars that recall EVOL-era Sonic Youth and minimal but monumental drumming, it’s full of beauty and brooding that is immediately exploded by the growling drones and heavy, tribal polythrhythms of “Let’s Not Wrestle Mt. Heart Attack,” which conjures up images of fiery, twirling drumsticks and sinister rites. It’s tempting to say that Drum’s Not Dead gets its point across in just the first two tracks, but that would ignore how well “To Hold You, Drum” mixes noise and whispery negative space and sets up the album’s surprisingly sweet, hopeful resolution, “The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack,” which also ranks among the band’s finest work. They Were Wrong, So We Drowned might have been too densely packed with ideas and sounds, but Drum’s Not Dead errs in the opposite direction: too many tracks feel like variations on the album’s themes that don’t really go anywhere. Though there are many moments of primal energy (the eerie, hypnotic taunting of “Hold You Drum,” “Drum and the Uncomfortable Can”‘s climactic doom) and beauty (the flowing water and brooding melody on “The Wrong Coat for You Mt. Heart Attack,” “A Visit from Drum”‘s expansive guitars and emotional vulnerability), they never quite jell into something that goes beyond being momentarily impressive. Drum’s Not Dead is undeniably interesting, but somehow unsatisfying; arguably the best thing about it is how it shows Liars are willing to keep pushing themselves into unknown creative territory, even if the results aren’t always consi

Rock guitar improvisation is the heart of great performances. Shred is not Dead proves that superstar sounds can be learned. Guitarist Terry Syrek teaches this lesson in fast licks. His techniques are basic exercises in skill acquisition. With a firm hand and stretched fingers, the student is introduced to sweep-picking. Syrek plays with the pentatonic scales in an interesting way, allowing the player to assume lead guitar position. He also goes into the Japanese scales and Lydian flat seven. With Syrek’s guidance, shredding gets creative. He concludes with a chance to play with a live band. ~ Sarah Ing, Rovi

Raise the Dead

Raise the Dead

Phantom Planet discovered the joys of rockin’ out on their third, self-titled album, which felt designed to move them as far away from the piano-driven pop of The Guest as they could get. Four years later, they keep the volume turned up on Raise the Dead, also their first album for Fueled by Ramen. Their anthemic, rowdy sound makes a lot more sense on this label than it did on their previous imprints, and Phantom Planet just seem more comfortable all around on Raise the Dead. Their outbursts are more natural here than they were on Phantom Planet, especially on “Raise the Dead,” where they feel completely in control of how the song moves from brisk acoustic guitars to a huge swell of strings and guitars. And even if they still don’t go near The Guest’s wistful ballad territory — “Quarantine” bares its broken heart with an edge, and “I Don’t Mind” is more bouncy than brooding — Phantom Planet balance their brash side with their pop roots with a lot more flair. “Do the Panic”‘s rough-and-tumble keyboards and guitars end up falling into place perfectly, “Ship Lost at Sea”‘s piston-like drums are pushy and cute at the same time, and “Dropped” feels like a more polished sequel to Phantom Planet’s “Bad Business.” “Leave Yourself for Somebody Else” is Raise the Dead’s purest pop moment, a bracing three minutes’ worth of hooks, harmonies, and impatient rhythms. As comfortable as the band sounds on Raise the Dead, it isn’t perfect: the chorus of children on “Leader” teeters between charming and cloying, and a few of the later songs, including “Demon Daughters” and “Geronimo,” cross the line from loud and rambunctious to just plain screechy. Even with a few stumbles, Raise the Dead is among Phantom Planet’s most enjoyable albums. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi Performers: Beker Baerwald – Children’s Voices; Charlotte Shenassa – Children’s Voices; Destiny Coleman – Children’s Voices; Lucien Koenig – Children’s Voices; Natalie Nooshin – Children’s Voices; Nick Bell – Children’s Voices; Noureen Abhari – Children’s Voices

Dead Man

Dead Man

$12.74

A dark, bitter commentary on modern American life cloaked in the form of a surrealist western, Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man stars Johnny Depp as William Blake, a newly-orphaned accountant who leaves his home in Cleveland to accept a job in the frontier town of Machine. Upon his arrival, Blake is told by the factory owner Dickinson (Robert Mitchum) that the job has already been filled. Dejectedly, he enters a nearby tavern, ultimately spending the night with a former prostitute. A violent altercation with the woman’s lover (Gabriel Byrne), also Dickinson’s son, leaves Blake a murderer as well as mortally wounded, a bullet lodged dangerously close to his heart. He flees into the wilderness, where a Native American named Nobody (Gary Farmer) mistakes Blake for the English poet William Blake and determines that he will be Blake’s guide in his protracted passage into the spirit world. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi ller, which sets a poetic, dreamy mood. He also fades in and out of scenes in order to better reflect Blake’s dazed, weak mental state. Adding an even greater depth to the film is Neil Young’s haunting score, which completes the overall effect. DEAD MAN stands firmly as a timeless work of art whose impact only increases upon subsequent viewings.

Seattle bomb-squad operative Lt. Tom Royko (Judge Reinhold) forms an uneasy alliance with brilliant but aloof heart surgeon Dr. Gillian Hayes (Penelope Ann Miller) to investigate a bizarre series of events, wherein three of Hayes’ former patients have literally exploded. The culprit is a disgruntled lunatic (Timothy Busfield), determined to avenge the death of his son in a surgical accident. The modus operandi: a small explosive device, implanted in the pacemakers of the unfortunate patients. As Royko races against time to rescue a whole slew of walking time bombs, Hayes is forced to come to terms with her own shortcomings as a medical professional — and as a human being. Filmed in Vancouver, Dead in a Heartbeat premiered March 3, 2002 on the TNT cable network. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I told you in my previous articles that when you see other people in your dreams they shall be interpreted as parts of your own personality, except when you dream about the person you love. When you see this person in your dreams, you can interpret the information you receive in your dreams as if it belongs to that person as it does not refer to your own psychic sphere.

When you see dead people in your dreams, the meaning varies according to the following types:

1. The dead person in your dream was not someone who really died, but that appears dead only in your dream.

2. The dead person you saw in your dream is really dead.

3. The really dead person you saw in your dream is someone that you loved very much and who loved you very much.

1. If you see someone who is alive in real life but appears dead in your dream, you have to interpret this person normally, as if it were a part of your own personality. For example, you see that your friend X is dead. What does X mean to you? How could you characterize him? You believe X is characterized by his or her extreme sincerity. So, this is the characteristic that he or she represents in your own psychic sphere. X represents your own sincerity.

If you see X dead, it means that you don’t need his example anymore. Now, this conclusion has 2 different meanings according to what is happening to you and according to what the dead person means for you.

a. You don’t need this example anymore because you are already like him. This fact has a positive meaning if your friend X represents a good quality in your psychic sphere. You don’t need to imitate the example anymore; you already learned to behave like X does.

b. You don’t need to avoid following his example anymore because you are already making the same mistakes made by X, in case X represents a bad quality of your psychic sphere, a part that is detrimental to you.

Since the person in our example (your friend X) is extremely sincere, we can conclude that this is a positive part of your personality and that the death of X has a positive meaning for you. You are already following this good example.

2. Now, if the person you saw in your dream is really dead, the interpretation is the same-this is a part of your own personality that you are imitating and, therefore, you don’t need their example anymore, be it good or bad.

However, dead people you see in your dreams who are really dead can reveal many more things in your dreams about your own personality because you can learn in your dreams about the reason of their death, in case they died while they were young, so that you may avoid making their mistakes, which may cause your own premature death.

The unconscious reveals through our dreams that some people have to die while they are too young because they have no resistance and, therefore, they are unable to fight against the evil in our world, which means that they would have become victims of other people’s bad intentions and that’s why their death meant salvation from many horrors. If they had continued to live, they would only have to suffer and they would lose the goodness they cultivated in their soul.

Only those that have a very good personality, meaning that they really have goodness in their hearts are saved this way, with a premature death. Most people have to face several disappointments and much despair in their lives though, because they never cultivate real goodness in their hearts.

However, it is a mistake to not be able to fight against evil because everyone needs this fight in order to completely develop his or her own psychic sphere. One must be very good but also very strong, in order to fight against evil.

The reasons for death are many and I don’t know all of them, only the reasons why some of my friends and relatives died, because I received this information in my dreams. The unconscious that produces the dreams is directed by God, who is really as saintly as described by all religions. That’s why we can have information about the reasons of someone’s death.

The explanations given can be confirmed by several aspects of the mentioned people’s lives and behaviour.

God is only a more developed being who shows us how we can reach his own stage of knowledge and become genius, if we learn how to develop our psychic sphere and eliminate our poisonous ego. All the religions were created by the same God because reality is too complex and the human being is too ignorant. Therefore, the information concerning the meaning of our lives and the meaning of religiosity for us had to be given to humanity in several different ways.

If several religions’ members argue and are enemies this is because of their own evil. God didn’t want to cause fights but God wanted to reveal to us the complex reality through several ways as well as to show us several different ways through which we can fight against evil.

Atheists can verify God’s existence thanks to the relation of several scientific proofs, besides the revelation we have in the translation of our dreams’ messages. This is certainly the end of atheism on Earth, because the information we receive in our dreams is real and has a tremendous value, since it works like psychotherapy for us.

Everyone can verify how saintly the unconscious is as soon as they learn exactly how to interpret their dreams, thanks to the correct method discovered by Carl Jung and simplified by me, who continued his research in the unknown region of the human psychic sphere through dream interpretation.

I’m going to talk more about God’s existence in the subsequent articles; today I want to show you the importance of the appearance of dead people in your dreams because this is a relief for you if you have lost people you loved very much.

3. If the dead person you saw in your dream was someone you loved very much and someone who loved you very much, this person will give you very good advice by showing you real solutions in your dreams. They may also explain many things about their death and about your own life.

You can trust the information you receive this way, because dead people don’t disappear after death; they continue to exist, they continue to love us and care about our life, even though they don’t have a body anymore like we do.

You only need to learn how to interpret your dreams in order to be able to decipher the messages you receive from the unconscious everyday, showing you everything you need to know.
