Ive been) with a baroque kind of day (as usual, and I'm happy for good music. I wonder who (some good, the baroque ensemble)? play good music, of course, the moment I'm like in love with Il Giardino Armonico. (The lute is my fav!)
Hello Miss LimLam am I totally agree with you, Il Giardino Armonico are wonderful. I have a video recording I took TV a few years ago — They are accompanied Cecilia Bartoli in an all-Vivaldi concert … I have to transfer it to DVD before I wear the thing funny. And yes, her lute is made of solid gold! Are you on the superb Baroque ensemble Europa Galante, Fabio Biondi instructions from the seemingly inexhaustible? They have published a series of brilliant CDs – I have a few, including Vivaldi's "Stabat Mater" / "Nisi Dominus" (countertenor David Daniels.) I also opera Vivaldi's "Bajazet" and two other recordings of his wind and string instruments, concerti. Ten out of ten. Yum! Cheers, Hafwen.

Acclaimed Italian Baroque ensemble Il Giardino Armonico has gained a worldwide reputation for perfection from critics and audiences alike, and in this release of an hour-long concert performance those who may not have seen the band live can set front and center for the performance of a lifetime. Trained in music schools across the globe, the Il Giardino Armonico troupe is comprised of two violinists, a flutist, a harpsichordist, a lute player, and a violoncello musician. Paul Fenkart directs a performance conducted by Giovanni Antonioni. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
The world famous Labeque sisters–Katia and Marielle–began their piano training as toddlers. Swiftly becoming two of the most accomplished classical pianists in the world, the siblings have appeared all over the world as soloists and part of an ensemble. Here, they pick up historical instruments to join the Il Giardino Armonico ensemble in performing 3 Bach concertos, 1 Bach symphony, and 1 Vivaldi concerto at Vienna’s Music Verein.
The world-renowned soprano Cecilia Bartoli sings some of the lesser known works of the great composer Antonio Vivaldi during this lovely concert performance. Ably backed by instrumentalists including violinist Marco Bianchi, lutist Luca Pianca, oboe player Maria Grazia d’Alessio, and flautino soloist Giovanni Anonini–who also acts as the conductor–the gorgeous soprano gives a voice to a composer whose legendary work THE FOUR SEASONS has, unfortunately, eclipsed all of his other gems.
Dutch-born composer Johannes Schenck is another in a long line of Baroque composers whose works are only now being discovered and given their first modern performances. Thanks to the intrepid investigative work of harpsichordist Pieter Dirksen — a member of the ensemble La Suave Melodia heard here — a set of 12 trio sonatas of Schenck’s Opus 3 that were thought to be lost have been unearthed. The works, which are each in a different key, show a mature composer’s total command of form, character of different keys, and abilities of each instrument for which he is composing. Apart from the tremendous service of simply rediscovering these works, La Suave Melodia goes one step further and provides listeners with an immaculate, deeply satisfying performance of the 12 trio sonatas. The recorded sound is wonderfully clean and simple and the balance between the instruments allows the violin to easily carry the melody throughout while still letting listeners enjoy the intricate harmonies and rhythmically varied accompanimental patterns in the rest of the ensemble. Intonation, articulation, and ornamentation match flawlessly from the first note of the CD to the last. Fans of early music have found a treasure not only in the works of Johannes Schenck, but in the sensitive, informed performances of La Suave Melodia. ~ Mike D.
