Chair massage, also referred to as seated massage, corporate massage or on-site massage, is a form of therapeutic massage that is performed in a time-condensed session. A licensed massage therapist using a special, ergonomically designed massage chair performs the massage. The massage chair is designed to elongate the muscles of the back and is designed to accommodate clients of all body types.
The chair massage therapist performs the massage without oils, which eliminates the need for the client to disrobe. The massage is generally concentrated on the muscles of the neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands, with sessions lasting for five to fifteen minutes. Chair massage sessions can be accompanied by aromatherapy, which is the use of essential oils to help promote deeper relaxation as well as physical and psychological well-being. Reflexology can also be part of a chair massage session. Reflexology involves applying pressure to specific zones of the foot in order to have a positive effect on related organs and tissues throughout the body.

However, for those who wish to have a more private setting, a screen can be set up around the chair, or the station can be located in an empty room or office.
Other far-reaching benefits of chair massage are the enhanced sense of physical and emotional well-being that results from the deep relaxation that the massage provides. Chair massage effectively reduces feelings of anxiety and soothes away the tension that is primarily held in the muscles of the shoulders, neck and back. Chair massage also helps to increase circulation, which is important in maintaining healthy and nourished muscles, joints and tissues. While Natalie Merchant’s elastic vocal cords are the obvious centerpiece of 10,000 Maniacs’ lilting folk-pop, what becomes apparent early on in The Wishing Chair is that the band would likely dry up and drift away like a dandelion if it weren’t for the inventive, wiry guitar playing of Robert Buck. It’s Buck’s instrument that acts as a constant (tin) foil for the spicy mustard goodness of Merchant’s vocal cords, whether he’s laying down the Johnny Marr-style spider riffs of “Grey Victory” and “Scorpio Rising,” or inspiring a thousand private college-based cover bands with “Maddox Table”‘s chorus pedal dynamics. While The Wishing Chair ends up being a little too long, it is nevertheless a sparkling major-label debut, and even bares its incisors a bit alongside more pastoral fare like “Cotton Alley.” The shining “My Mother the War” bounces along on a tensile, new wave-inspired groove that even includes what can only be described as a mirthful whoop from the normally opaque Merchant. The majority of The Wishing Chair underpins the sound that came to define the Maniacs and Merchant’s later solo flight. It’s perfectly normal to be afraid of something. We’re all afraid of something. Some are afraid of cockroaches and others feel a little queasy when they’re in high places. But some things people are afraid of simply boggle the mind. There are fears so irrational that you sometimes wonder how these people got to fear the things they do. And you are sometimes left in awe of the power of the human mind and how it can influence our behavior.
Here are some of the weirdest phobias that overcome people. It may be difficult for some people to go Through Life with these inhibitions and fears. But many of them do! But it seems hard to think of living with these kinds of conditions:
- Thaasophobia: This is otherwise known as the fear of sitting. Other than being a very tiring phobia, this can get you in some discomfort in social events. The only time you should really be afraid of sitting down is when people are strapping you into the electric chair or for lethal injection. Otherwise, it’s perfectly OK!
- Phronemophobia: Fearing things like death or even worms are pretty much normal things to be afraid of. But when you fear something like thinking, it becomes pretty odd, not to mention pretty difficult since a lot of things we do everyday have some sort of mental aspect to them.
- Chaetophobia: This is known as the fear of hair. It is not only a pretty strange phobia it is probably one of the more uncomfortable ones since it would probably involve you constantly shaving or waxing your body to be able to cope without. Sometimes it hurts Just Being a mammal.
- Anablephobia: This is the fear of looking up. Let’s not get into the difficulties you could face with this one. Falling pianos, anyone?
