Reggae Original

If you are a Jamaican lover and love of his splendor and culture, then you would be aware of all the ratios of reggae dancehall music. This music is by people appreciated all over the world. The reggae music of Jamaica is a combination of several rhythms such as dub, ska, dancehall, Congo, randb, jazz, calypso and mento. The reason for This music, which is well known that there is a mixture of African, American, Jamaican folk and blues rhythms.

Ska rhythm was the source for Reggae Dancehall Music in 1950, the year in Jamaica has the freedom of England. Dancehall reggae music, first in Kingston, Jamaica in the form of outdoor discos started on the road. Bob Marley, one of the world's most famous music maker took dancehall reggae music to an entirely different level, and it was very well appreciated throughout the world. One of his album "Exodus" won the Album of the Century award. Some of the latest reggae artists are shaggy, Sean Paul and Abia.

Reggae Dancehall music was just singing in the dance halls should be in the 1990s, when his music was very raw and promotion of people to violence and disruption. Reggae dancehall music was regarded as the grossest Music and it could only be played in dance halls. The reason is that music acts as a revolt against the original reggae music because it tries to meet the demands the public and not just the original reggae spirit to do justice. The Dancehall Mix has many technical Beats and the music was more upbeat and fast pace. One of the other rhythms, which became the target of controversy Ragga Music. This music came with harsh lyrics about violence, Gangs and weapons. It is also discouraging women and praised the predominance of men. The remixes of reggae dancehall music and various other rhythms of the music better, to some extent by adding more beats and computer effects to the song. This has to love people instead of the Reggae Music to the texts. While remixes are huge hits, there are many People Who are still in their original condition reggae dancehall music fans.

Peter Broggs specializes in old-school roots and culture reggae, and if his songs frequently seem a bit derivative, and his vocals more than occasionally pitch-challenged, he mostly overcomes it by his complete Rastafarian sincerity and general hopefulness, traits that were often in short supply in Jamaica during the dancehall-dominated 1980s. This Is Crucial Reggae collects a dozen tracks from his various Ras releases, including the ganja-growing song that has given Broggs his nickname, “International Farmer.” It’s hard not to like the guy, and songs like “Four Hundred Years” and “Cool Down,” although neither is strikingly original, have a sincere, searching tone that put them over in spite of their shortcomings. Die-hard fans will already have everything here, but curious first-time listeners might find This Is Crucial Reggae the perfect place to start to sample what Broggs has to offer. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi

The Gladiators were not only one of the two or three finest reggae harmony groups of the 1970s; they were also, somewhat unusually, an almost self-sufficient instrumental ensemble as well. Lead singer Albert Griffiths was an accomplished lead guitarist, and harmony singers Clinton Fearon and Gallimore Sutherland played bass and rhythm guitar, respectively. Although they always seemed to operate somewhat in the shadow of the sweeter-voiced Mighty Diamonds and were not quite as prolific, the Gladiators nevertheless made about as many really fine records as their closest competition, and the ones that they made for Virgin’s Front Line imprint are among their best. Proverbial Reggae finds them augmented instrumentally by members of the legendary Revolutionaries studio band, and includes such classic Griffiths compositions as “Best Things in Life,” “Jah Works,” and the strangely catchy “Stick a Bush,” a song whose inscrutable chorus has been parsed nearly to death on reggae discussion lists worldwide. This album was out of print and unavailable for over 20 years; three of its tracks were included on the collection Dreadlocks, the Time Is Now, which was released as part of an initial Front Line reissue push in 1990. In 2002, the original album was reissued on CD with the original cover art. Highly recommended. ~ Rick Anderson, Rovi

Reggae singer and songwriter Dennis Brown was only 11 when he first cut a song in a recording studio, a song he wrote himself called “Lips of Wine” for producer Derrick Harriott in 1968, and he had an amazingly prolific recording career, with more than 75 original albums to his name (not to mention scores of compilations, repackagings, and reissues) before his untimely death in 1999. This three-disc set is yet another hit or miss repackaging of various Brown tracks, but that doesn’t make it a poor purchase, because there are plenty of classic Brown performances here, including two of his finest, 1972’s “Money in My Pocket” (collected here in an extended version) and 1973’s “Westbound Train,” both of which were produced by Winston “Niney” Holness. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi

Crucial Reggae Soul Party

Crucial Reggae Soul Party

$8.78

Trojan’s This Is Crucial Reggae series is really a group of samplers (each runs around 35 minutes in length) showcasing the label’s vast ska and reggae licensing catalog, and the template of the other titles in the series is to mix bona fide Jamaican hits with reggaefied covers of familiar international pop and soul songs. Crucial Reggae Soul Party, however, is all covers, with the exception of the lead track, Bob Marley’s “Soul Shakedown Party.” The Jamaican versions of these soul, R&B, and Motown tunes are certainly interesting, but none of them equal the original versions. The end result feels a bit like a novelty album, and as reggae goes, nothing here is particularly crucial. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi

Produced by Urban Sedated, this is the first in a series of compilation albums showcasing Global Reggae artists from around the world. Global Reggae Selection Vol 1 features 14 tracks from Reggae artists such as Fc Apatride Utd, Elhadji, Mathew Tembo, King Tide and Ras b Ssali as well as rising stars such as Reason, Dub one!, I Ancient, Iyared Militant, Solo Banton and many more. The compilation features tracks from Africa, Europe, Carribean, Australia, U.S.A and The UK. A year in the making Global Reggae Selection vol 1 includes original artwork by AndreasOne and a 12 page booklet cronicaling the history of Reggae to the present day. Global reggae combines elements of Reggae, hip hop, Dub, Dancehall and World music pulled together buy the heavy Roots vibe that is evident throughout the album. Overall, this is an album celebrating Reggae on a global scale and is filled with heavy basslines, concious lyrics and floor filling riddims set to take the world by storm.

Crucial Reggae Funk Party

Crucial Reggae Funk Party

Trojan’s This Is Crucial Reggae series is really a group of samplers (each runs around 35 minutes in length) showcasing the label’s vast ska and reggae licensing catalog, and the template of the other titles in the series is to mix bona fide Jamaican hits with reggaefied covers of familiar international pop and soul songs. This entry concentrates on funk and soul covers, but lacks any huge Jamaican hits, and while there are certainly interesting versions here, none of them are vital as either reggae or funk performances. In fact, it’s actually pretty disorienting to hear “Shaft” (done by the Chosen Few) and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” (done by the Pioneers) with reggae rhythms and approaches, while “Kung Fu Fighting” (done by Lloyd Parks) amazingly manages to somehow sound less odd than the original version, hard as that is to believe. In the end result, Crucial Reggae Funk Party feels a bit like a novelty album, and despite the title, nothing here is particularly crucial. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi

Reggae Party Explosion: The Best in Classic Reggae

Reggae Party Explosion: The Best in Classic Reggae

$11.18

This collection certainly doesn’t assemble the best of classic reggae, and it really isn’t much of a party explosion, either, but is rather a sequence of relatively smooth and bland lovers rock with hardly an edge to be seen. Oh, it’s pleasant enough, and tracks like Dennis Brown’s “Weeping and Moaning” (easily the best cut here) are memorable, if not essential. Delroy Wilson’s reggae restructuring of Captain & Tennille’s “Do That to Me One More Time” and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” are worth hearing, if only to realize how definitive the original versions actually are. The only real party track here, Dave & Ansel Collins’ “Double Barrel” is unfortunately a remake and not the original single. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi

Sonia Abel and Claudette Brown were cousins originally from Brixton, England, but had relocated to New York when they made this album in Lloyd “Bullwackie” Barnes’ Bronx studio in 1981. The LP was actually released by the Florida-based Top Ranking label, but had been out of print for 20 years when it was released again as part of a comprehensive Wackies CD reissue program in late 2002. The material is impressive: almost all of the songs, which alternate between lovers rock and cultural roots, are original compositions, and Abel and Brown harmonize nicely, creating a sound that is more than the sum of its parts. (Abel’s voice has strengthened somewhat with age, and she is even more impressive in her current position in the Natti Love Joys, which she organized with her husband, Wackies house bassist Tony Allen.) Highlights on this fine album include “Stranger” (which was remixed and issued again on the duo’s follow-up release, Lovers Rock Reggae Style) and the slightly screechy but touching devotional anthem “Wherever Jah Send Me.” ~ Rick Anderson, Rovi Performers: Jerry Harris – Guitar (Rhythm), Guitar, Bass; Claudette Brown – Vocals; Clive “Azul” Hunt – Keyboards, Bass; Clive Plummer – Drums; Jah Scotty – Drums; Owen Stewart – Keyboards; Sonia Abel – Vocals

Reggae Chartbusters, Vol. 4

Reggae Chartbusters, Vol. 4

$9.58

2009 release, the fourth volume in this recently reactivated popular Reggae series from the Trojan label. Just why Trojan chose to abandon its hugely popular Reggae Chartbusters series after it had enjoyed so much commercial success remains a mystery – certainly the hits were there, as this newly created compilation illustrates. Keeping to the formula established by the original three volumes, this set brings together 20 of the most popular Reggae tracks from 1972/3 period, drawing upon both the Trojan and Creole catalogues as its source. Aside from an array of UK chart hits, the collection also features significant sides by Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Toots & the Maytals and John Holt. Launched by Trojan late in 1969, the Reggae Chartbusters album series swiftly became one of the best-selling lines in the company’s catalogue. Following the simple, but effective formula of highlighting a dozen of the biggest Reggae hits of the preceding months, the LPs provided a showcase for both Trojan and the new style from Jamaica. 20 tracks. Sanctuary.

Sure, the cover smacks of tropical ghetto chic, sporting as it does a strange mix of blaxploitation, soca-sexual, and Day-Glo elements, but while the music within ranges as far and wide — from ska and rocksteady to early reggae — the quality is consistently excellent. Save for the unit-shifting likes of “007 (Shanty Town)” and Tony Tribe’s original reggae version of Neil Diamond’s “Red, Red Wine,” the disc spotlights Jamaican and English chart-toppers like Ken Boothe’s “Everything I Own,” Harry J.’s “The Liquidator,” and the Heptones’ “Hypocrite.” There are also fine contributions by the Techniques, Dave and Ansel Collins, the Maytals, and Nicky Thomas. A nicely put together collection, perfect for vintage reggae fans. ~ Stephen Cook, Rovi

Are you tired of listening to the same old pop-rock tunes with unoriginal cheesy lyrics over and over again? I feel the same way. I wanted to find a different kind of music to listen to. I wanted to listen to music whose lyrics I could relate to me in a way. And whose rhythm would strike a chord within me. I was amazed by the variety of music, some of which I have never even heard of. But among these, I enjoyed listening to reggae music the most. Also known as Jamaican music, Reggae has entered into the realm of mainstream music in recent years.

The genre of music appeals to many listeners because of its off-beat rhythms and soulful beats. In fact, what many people don’t know is that modern hip hop music was heavily influenced by the Reggae music scene back in the days of Bob Marley and the other greats. Another thing I like about this kind of music is how people love dancing to it.

Ever since the invention of the music video, Reggae videos have become very popular among people of all ages. You may think that I am pertaining to the music videos of popular artists like Sean Paul and Jah Cure.  However, I am actually talking about recordings of reggae dances.

These dances are great because they are passionate, spontaneous, and heart-filled performances. You don’t need to be a professional dancer to dance to Reggae music. You just need to put your heart in it. My favorite kind of Reggae video is the Passa Passa video. Passa Passa is a weekly street party that is held from 11pm till morning the next day.

Reggae music artists, professional dancers and dance crews join the huge crown of people who attend and dance during these street celebrations. It’s just night after night of fun and laughter for the old and young alike.
